Hello, TAC community! It’ s a new year, and thus TAC brings you a new blogger to keep you updated on TAC projects and opportunities for involvement. My name is Becca Ball, Logistics Coordinator and TAC Core Team member, and I am thrilled to be your TAC blogger for 2015.

First order of business is fundraising! January is fundraising month for TAC. Until January 21st, TAC is fundraising through Indiegogo to help us with costs of: providing scholarships to students to attend our workshops, insurance, space rentals, developing curriculum, accounting and legal costs, marketing expenses and all other needs.  If you are on Facebook, please share any of TAC’s fundraising posts thank you!  If you know anyone who would like to donate to TAC, please send them to our Indiegogo page, or send them this video which has the link at the end.

Now, on to other excitement!

Thanks to everyone who attended the January curriculum meeting , and thanks to NYU/Tisch UG Drama & Chris Jaehnig for hosting TAC. At this meeting, we discussed what 2015 looks like for TAC and developed our next workshop. For those who couldn’t attend, here’s a brief overview of our 2015 plans.

New In-Schools Pilot Programs: TAC is exploring the possibility of working with a few Manhattan schools in Spring 2015.  By February we will be able to say more about these exciting projects with schools on the Lower East Side and in Chelsea.

Weekend Workshops

March Workshop: Carpentry Basics. In March, TAC will hold a one day workshop on  Carpentry Basics in which students will learn how to use math, imagination and tools to problem solve, design and build. Cynthia Jankowski and Howie Bee are our head teachers. This workshop has been in the works for quite a while, and we are very excited to finally offer it! If you are interested in teaching or have students who want to attend, please contact Kim Guzowski.

Other Possible Workshops for 2015: Scenic Art, Projection & Performance, Audio, and Sewing. If you are interested in developing these or other workshops, please come to TAC’s next curriculum meeting, or contact Kim Guzowski.

Summer Camps: We may collaborate with the Intrepid on their summer all-girls STEAM program, and are looking to partner with other existing summer camps. Please feel free to contact us with camps that might be a good fit.

Street Fairs: Brrrrr! It’s too cold for street fairs in NYC right now, but this summer, TAC will resume its annual Street Fair workshops.  We are always looking for new street fair ideas. If you have one, let us know.

TAC Looking to Next Fall  Next September, TAC hopes to be continuing in-schools pilot programs and, of course, we plan to participate in NYC Maker Faire again!  As first-time participants, TAC’s Rigging Workshop won the Editor’s Blue Ribbon Award; we have a lot to live up to for 2015 Maker Faire. We are not sure if we will do the rigging workshop again, or do something new, but we’d like to hear your ideas and can’t wait for another successful event!

Immediate Involvement

So far, 2015 is off to an exciting start! You can help make 2015 even better by going here and contributing to our current fundraising campaign. We need your help in order to continue to offer our amazing programs for the upcoming year.
