113The Physics & Engineering of Bridge Building

Professional riggers will work with students to assemble a truss bridge while examining each choice of materials and construction in terms of the physics and algebra that determines how a bridge is built. Students will study a variety of bridge-building options, some of the history of bridge construction, and build their own model of a bridge that they will explain and defend in terms of the physics and engineering choices they have made.  (Grades 8-12)
